Drum granulation
Our SG Sulphur Granulator systems provide a clean, efficient and high-productivity solidification solution. If you need to process large volumes of liquid sulphur into SUDIC standard-quality solid sulphur granules in a single pass, one of the IPCO SG systems is right for you.
IPCO SG systems are the most advanced sulphur granulation systems on the market. These fully automated, high-productivity, ‘once through’ drum granulation systems deliver premium sulphur at the highest throughput rates in sulphur processing.
There are two models available:
IPCO SG 20, for sulphur solidification requirements of up to 800 mtpd (metric tonnes per day)
IPCO SG 30, with a capacity of up to 2,000 mtpd

How it works
Solid sulphur seeds are generated outside the drum by prilling sprays of liquid sulphur in a water bath at a controlled pressure to form the desired size range. The particles are then conveyed into a rotating drum with appropriately placed flights attached to its inner surface. These flights create curtains of falling sulphur particles inside the drum while moving them towards the discharge end.
Spray nozzles on a header that runs the length of the drum coat the curtains of particles with liquid sulphur, progressively enlarging them to the required granule size.
The temperature in the drum is moderated by the evaporation of water from spray nozzles located inside the drum. A fan draws air through the drum to sweep out the water vapor as well as any fugitive dust. The dust is removed using a wet scrubber before the process air stream is released to the atmosphere.
The spherical shape of the granules – along with the repeated spraying and cooling of thin layers of molten sulphur as they pass through the rotary drum granulator – accommodates the natural shrinkage during the transition from melt to solid, without weakening the product.
The result is a high-quality granulated sulphur product that meets Sulphur Development Institute Canada (SUDIC) standard product specifications in terms of size, friability, bulk density, angle of repose, and compaction.
