The oil skimmer is a steel-belt based conveyor used for continuous separation of oil from water. This simple but highly effective tool has applications in any situation where oil needs to be removed from water, from machine shops to oil spills.
Oil skimming is an established method of removing unwanted oil from water. It works on the principle that oil adheres more to steel than water. This allows the oil skimmer conveyor’s steel belt to separate and collect oil as it is passed through water.
IPCO’s industrial oil skimmers are used in many different industries around the world. One of the most common applications is in machine shops, to separate oil from the water used to keep cutting tools cool, so the oil can be collected and recycled. Our oil skimmers are also widely used to skim oil from water in harbors and oil refineries, and to minimize pollution by skimming oil spills in water.

In our industrial oil skimmer machine, one end of a continuously-running steel belt is immersed in the liquid. The oil skimmer belt collects a film of oil on both sides as it travels upwards, while the water drips off. The oil is scraped off on both sides of the steel belt and collected in a common outlet from the skimmer.
The steel belt is tracked by two sheaves and a rubber v-rope attached to the steel belt
Models are available in belt widths of 100, 200 and 400 mm, each with the choice of three standard lengths or “lifting heights”: 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 mm.
Capacity will depend on oil viscosity but the following examples are typical (l/hr for 100 mm/200 mm/400 mm models):
Aircraft fuel: 10/25/50
White spirit: 50/100/20
Fish oil: 75/150/300
Fuel oil: 100/200/400
