Super mirror polished steel belts, or high mirror polished steel belts, are the most technologically advanced of all steel belts. They are manufactured from special steel grades and then precision polished to the surface finish required. The quality of a mirrored belt has a direct impact on the quality of materials that can be produced on it.
Our super mirror polished steel belts have been key to the production of specialist films, tapes, and membranes for many years. The quality of the steel itself, combined with our advanced grinding and polishing techniques, means we can manufacture and supply belt surface grades suitable for the most demanding applications.
We have unsurpassed expertise in polishing belts, with a choice of IPCO steel grades, belt widths/thicknesses, and polished surface finishes to meet specific application needs such as:
Filter membrane (nitrocellulose), e.g. pharmaceutical and food applications
Ceramic tape (polymer resins), e.g. semiconductors, fuel cells, solar cells
Edible films (soluble polymers), e.g. pharmaceutical capsules, pills
Optical films (tac), e.g. LCD top film
Insulation films (pi), e.g. printed circuit boards
Battery film (Li-ion), e.g. battery electrodes
Plastic films for high quality packaging

How it works
The grade of polish applied to your steel belt determines the smoothness of the end product, so it is essential to get this right. If you are unsure what your application requires, our experts will be happy to help.
Both use regular standard materials and are polished by grinding or buffing. Thickness variation will be ≤80 µm and the acceptable level of surface roughness is agreed with you at the time of placing the order. Surface conditions can vary, depending on the technique used. For this reason, we will provide a sample if requested. This quality is suitable for products such as the ceramic sheets used in fuel cells.
These also use a standard material but are produced to higher tolerances with limited inclusions, a smoother surface, and minimal variation in thickness.
These are the highest grade polished surfaces, which use a super-clean material and are suitable for casting products such as optical films for LCD displays and substrate films for high quality electrical products such as digital cameras, mobile phones and notebook PCs.
Benefits
High-grade steels, known as ‘super clean materials’, are produced using special processes that involve repeated remelting and refining to eliminate inclusions prior to final forging.
Data such as thickness, inclusions, and surface roughness are measured and checked for compliance with your agreed specification to ensure quality.
Benefits
We can achieve surface grades specific to your requirements, including levels of inclusions that fall between our standard grades.
Any IPCO mirror belt can be manufactured in thicknesses of 0.6–2.0 mm and in widths of up to 3 m.
IPCO can provide on-site service for installation and surface repair, ensuring the surface is finished to the same standard as other areas.
Technical
Our super mirror polished belts are produced by polishing an IPCO stainless steel belt for optimum surface quality. Belt grades used for super mirror polished steel belts are as follows:
IPCO 1000SA AOD (AISI 316) – thicknesses 1.0 and 1.2 mm
IPCO 1200SA AOD (AISI 301) – thicknesses 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.6, and 2.0 mm
Applications include ceramic sheets for fuel cells and capacitors, and filter membranes for medical filters
IPCO 1000MP (AISI 316) – thicknesses 1.0 and 1.6 mm
IPCO 1200MP (AISI 301) – thicknesses 1.0 mm
Applications include optical film (e.g. TAC, PC, PVA etc.) for LCD panels, and film for substrate use (e.g. PI etc.) for digital cameras, mobile phones, laptops, solar batteries, etc.
IPCO 1150SM – thicknesses 0.6, 1.0 and 1.2 mm
IPCO 1650SM – 0.6, 1.0, 1.2, 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0 mm
Applications include extruded packaging film (e.g. PP, PVC etc.) for commodity goods, and pressed laminate sheet products for PCBs, automotive parts, fuel cell parts, solar battery parts, etc.
